Clever, Quirky, Empathetic, and Real –  A Savvy Everyman and Reluctant Hero.

I have always loved reading great stories and learning new things.  As a 10 year-old school boy, I would sneak off to the library during recess – I was supposed to be outside playing baseball – to read books like ‘The Complete Works of Edgar Allen Poe’ and ‘A History of Modern Palaeontology’. 

In addition to reading, my other life-long passion is singing.  So it’s no surprise, with my love of stories and singing, that I became a professional singer, dancer and actor. However, I still had that thirst for knowledge. So, when I had the opportunity to move to Europe and pursue a career in management consulting – I just couldn’t say no.  Along the way, I’ve lived  and worked in over 75 countries before settling in the UK  – and eventually ‘coming home’ to acting via voiceover and audiobook narration.

I’m Craig Van Ness – a UK-based American / British Voice Actor.  I grew-up on the East Coast of the US and have lived most of my adult life in the UK – with extended periods in France, Germany, Italy, Poland and Spain – to name just a few.  I’m know for my light, youthful tone and neutral ‘MidAtlantic’ or ‘TransAtlantic’ accent.

I’ve worked with both indie and major publishers, recording Non-Fiction, Young Adult, Children’s, Sci-Fi / Fantasy, Historical and Contemporary Fiction, Thrillers, Horror, Spoken Word, and Romance & Erotica.

Because of my early musical training, language training and well-travelled background, I have a real love of languages, accents and dialects.  I can perform in a range of regional American and European accents, and enjoy the challenge of creating memorable characters while telling engaging, entertaining stories – no matter the genre.

When not in my studio you’ll find me out exploring the English Countryside … and by the way … I’m still a big fan of a great story or anything involving dinosaurs.
